"Ukranian people, I love you... Yesterday, it [completed] one year when crazy Putin started big war in my country. He wanna kill kids, [all] people from Ukraine... And I wanna thank my Ukrainian army for [defending] my country... Please don't forget what's happening because today, this crazy guy is [attacking] Ukraine but we don't know what he [will] do tomorrow," said Yaroslav Amosov.

At one point during the on-going war, Yaroslav Amosov took a break from his MMA career and returned to Ukraine to defend his country.

In the lead-up to Bellator 291, Amosov spoke about his return to MMA. The 29-year-old revealed that he faced pressure from his friends and family to resume his fighting career as they believed it would be more helpful for the country than Amosov's on-ground participation in supporting Ukraine. Thus, 'Dynamo' decided to return to action at Bellator 291.

"They said, 'Listen, our immediate area is liberated. It's free. It's time for you to return to fighting and use your notoriety and your platform to be the voice of what's going here, as opposed to being physically boots on the ground. It wasn't an easy decision. There was a lot of pressure from my family, from my friends. But eventually, I decided that's what I was going to do."
