ONE lightweight kickboxing world champion Regian Eersel exited the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Friday with two massive gold belts on his shoulders.

The Surinamese-Dutch slugger won a razor-close split decision against Sinsamut Klinmee in a five-round striking masterclass for the inaugural ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title at ONE on Prime Video 3. Both high-level strikers have shown the ability to knock their opponents senseless, so fans had high hopes for a knockout on this one.

Eersel and Sinsamut, however, paid respects to their opponent’s fight-ending capabilities, seemingly canceling each other out. ‘The Immortal’ wisely picked his spots and answered back with precise combinations against his aggressive Thai opponent. Sinsamut, who delivered highlight-reel KOs of Nieky Holzken and Liam Nolan in his last two outings, pressed forward with his kick-heavy style.

What ensued was a technical battle with both fighters not giving an inch. Knowing they were pretty much even after four rounds, both fighters left it all on the line in the final five minutes.

However, Regian Eersel veteran’s savvy and world championship experience came into play as he pulled away in the dying seconds of the match. The Amsterdam star tagged Sinsamut with a beautiful two-punch combo, which busted him open and bloodied up his nose. Sinsamut tried to return fire, but he was tagged several more times before the final bell.

Check out this crazy sequence in the final minutes of the fight:

Some fans believe Sinsamut Klinmee should have won against Regian Eersel

With his monumental win, Regian Eersel joined an exclusive group of ONE two-sport world champions, aligning himself with the likes of Stamp Fairtex, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, and Janet Todd.

However, not everyone agrees with the decision. Some fans aired their disagreement with the final verdict, claiming Sinsamut was robbed by the judges.

Here are some of the responses in the comments section of ONE’s video.

Sinsamut’s fellow ONE fighter and Venum Training camp teammate Mehdi Zatout, who won a $50,000 bonus in the same event, called the Thai striker the “real champ.”

“Real champ ☝🏼 @sinsamut_klinmee ❤️”

A pair of commenters suggested that Regian Eersel may have won the final round, but was outstruck by Sinsamut in the first 20 minutes.

“Sinsamut won that, the only significant thing Eersel did was in jabs and hooks in the final round but got out kicked too.”
“Close fight but Klinmee definitely won that . Idk what other guy did to beat the champion.”

One fan, though, pointed out that ‘Aquaman’ should have taken the judges out of the equation if he really wanted to win.

“Still the Champ 🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷.. If you want to win a Champ. knock him out.. then you earn it.!! Congrat Eersel🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷…”
