Brazilian grappling ace Mayssa Bastos had to go through the wringer to seize the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title from former divisional queen Danielle Kelly. Their bout included the two fighters engaging in a frenetic game of one upmanship on the ground.
The two battled for the title at ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 24 in Bangkok, Thailand. They went back-and forth in their 10-minute showdown, which ended with the Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy standout winning by unanimous decision and becoming the new atomweight grappling champion.
ONE Championship looked back at the competitive match in an Instagram post, particularly the wild scramble the fighters had on the ground, to hype up their scheduled rematch this week.

The fighters are girding for another competitive matchup when they go at it again at ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
It is one of two world title matches featured at the event, which will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Mayssa Bastos gunning for a finish of Danielle Kelly in rematch
Missed out on a submission finish in their first battle in ONE Championship, Mayssa Bastos said she will try even harder to submit Danielle Kelly in their title rematch at ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6.
She made her intentions known in an interview with ONE Championship, highlighting her gameplan of taking the fight harder to her rival and force her to commit costly mistakes.
The 27-year-old champion said:
"But what I can say is that I intend to be a little more aggressive in this fight and make her expose herself more because she will start to make a few more mistakes and then the gaps will appear."
Apart from retaining the world title, Mayssa Bastos is out to get a victory at ONE Fight Night 26 to extend her undeafeated run in ONE so far to three straight.
