What caused the Joe Rogan anti-semitic controversy?

UFC 273: Volkanovski v The Korean
UFC Commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan, the host of one of the most popular podcasts on Spotify, faced criticism and backlash this week for making anti-Semitic remarks.

This latest anti-semitic controversy adds to the history of using his massive platform to make controversial statements, including allegations of spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and using racial slurs.

The podcast host is facing criticism this week due to a recent episode of his podcast where he defended U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar. In this episode, he promoted an anti-Semitic stereotype about Jews and money, which has drawn widespread backlash.

In a recent episode with guests Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, creators of the Breaking Points podcast, Rogan said:

"The idea that Jewish people aren’t into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. That’s fu*king stupid.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt took cognizance of the matter and criticized Rogan for his controversial remarks on Jews. Greenblatt quoted on Twitter:

"Disturbing that at a time of rising anti-Jewish violence, when growing numbers of Americans believe in antisemitic conspiracy theories, [Rogan] would use his immense platform to spew antisemitic tropes about Jews and money."

Joe Rogan has invited a number of controversial guests to his podcast, including members of the Proud Boys, former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Some episodes featuring these guests have been removed from the Spotify platform due to their controversial nature.

Joe Rogan discusses Cocaine Bear

Joe Rogan's podcast is known for its diverse range of topics, making it difficult to predict which subjects he and his guests will delve into in any given episode.

In a recent podcast, he delved into the intriguing topic of the upcoming film "Cocaine Bear," which is based on a true story, and he explored it in depth during his conversation with American rapper B-Real.

During a recent podcast episode, B-Real asked Rogan if he was aware of the story and informed him that the bear in the story died from a heart attack caused by drug use.

In response, the UFC color commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan said:

"I think that was a rumor. I mean it probably overdosed. I mean if you’re taking coke and you’re Bear, you eat a lot. Like how much coke is that? I bet they enjoyed the experience, I bet it feels good once you start getting high from that coke. You’re like oh this is great and then you’re bear you’re glutton so you’re just diving in there eating the whole bag."
