Carlos Prates passed his first test against a ranked UFC opponent with flying colors as he brutally KO'd perennial welterweight contender Neil Magny in the first round of their headliner bout at UFC Vegas 100. Suffice to say that the win has impressed his fellow MMA pros.
Early in the first round of their fight, Magny gave the surging contender a run for his money as he used efficient grappling to neutralize his opponent's power punches.
However, the momentum started to shift the Brazilian's way when he sat down 'The Haitian Sensation' with an elbow in the middle of the round. From there, it was all Prates.
'The Nightmare' went ballistic on his opponent. While Magny once again attempted to disrupt his foe's rhythm by trying to tie him up, power emerged as the great equalizer as Prates soon face-planted Magny with a debilitating left hand to the temple.

Referencing Prates celebrating his UFC Louisville win with a victory cigarette, welterweight champion Belal Muhammad wrote:
"What if cigarettes is the secret."
Former title challenger Gilbert Burns wrote:
"Wow, what a knockout."
Former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo chimed in:
"Carlos Prates has a very bright future in the UFC. Welterweights beware."

The statement win has not quenched Prates' thirst for combat. The Brazilian is hoping for a top-10 opponent in his next octagon outing. During his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, 'The Nightmare' called for the UFC to match him up with Geoff Neal or Jack Della Maddalena next.
