Stephen Thompson managed to defeat Kevin Holland after the fourth round during the UFC Orlando main event this weekend and has put himself in a strong position in the welterweight division. However, when looking for Thompson's next opponent, he may struggle to find another entertaining bout given the lack of natural strikers at the top of the welterweight rankings.

'Wonderboy' stated after the UFC Orlando main event that he would like to fight somebody with a similar style to Holland next, leaving very little choice for his next outing. Given the fighters currently ranked above him in the welterweight division, only Leon Edwards would seem like a natural fit.

While speaking to the press after winning his bout at UFC Orlando, 'Wonderboy' stated:

"If you guys want more fights like that (the bout against Holland), give me a striker. Give me a striker. Of course, I’m always looking for the title, and that’s always at the top of the list. But why not have some fun fights along the way?"

Stephen Thompson probably wouldn't be keen to face the likes of Khamzat Chimaev. He also did not get a positive result against both Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns in his previous outings.

This would leave Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, and Colby Covington when looking at the fighters ranked higher than 'Wonderboy' in the welterweight rankings. As mentioned, only Edwards would likely provide the striking battle Thompson is craving.

Edwards is currently the UFC welterweight champion after beating Usman in the fifth and final round at UFC 278 via an impressive head kick.
