The ‘Fighting Rooster’ scored his third win inside the circle on Friday night, besting ONE debutant Torepchi Dongak with a brilliant three-round performance. Following his victory, ONE commentator Mitch Chilson joined Peimian inside the circle to let him know that ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong had awarded him with a performance bonus.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Zhang Peimian revealed that he did not expect a bonus since he wasn’t able to finish Dongak in their kickboxing clash:

“I’m so excited and I was very happy when I heard the news [of my $50,000 bonus]. I was very surprised because I didn’t finish him. So I thought it was not enough for the $50,000 bonus yet.”

Peimian’s performance was only one of three to earn the $50,000 bonus on Friday night. Making his promotional debut, the undefeated Akbar Abdullaev earned a bonus for his 44-second knockout of Oh Ho Taek, extending his undefeated streak to 9-0.

Last but certainly not least was ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9. ‘The Kicking Machine’ scored a third-round knockout of short-notice replacement Danial Williams to retain his ONE world title and bank 50k in the process.

Zhang Peimian’s goal is another shot at Jonathan Di Bella’s ONE world title

Zhang Peimian is determined to get another crack at Jonathan Di Bella’s ONE world title. ‘Fighting Rooster’ came up short in their first meeting at ONE 162 in October, suffering a unanimous decision loss to the Canadian-Italian world champion. Peimian hopes to earn a rematch later this year but understands that he may have to string together a few wins first.

“To get another world title shot, I have to put together a winning streak. So this fight, or the next, or maybe if the promotion thinks I need three more shots before I get the rematch, I must win them all. We are targeting the belt, and everything before that is just a stumbling block.”

With ONE Fight Night 8 in the books, Peimian already has one of those much-needed victories. It remains to be seen if that will be enough or if ONE Championship asks him to get one or two more before a rematch is given some serious thought.

Do you want to see Zhang Peimian rematch Jonathan Di Bella or does the ‘Fighting Rooster’ need a couple more wins to justify another ONE world title opportunity?
