Rousey spills stark details about hitting rock-bottom post her Olympic performance

Ronda Rousey – The pretty face of MMA

Ronda Rousey, today maybe one of the, if not the, biggest stars in the UFC today with a dominant perfect fighting record, multiple endorsements and movie deals pouring in. Pretty much why, it is hard to imagine that this same phenomenal athlete underwent the ‘lowest of lows’ just about half a decade ago following her bronze medal-winning performance at the Olympics 2008.

In her new book ‘My Fight/Your Fight’, Rousey details her downward spiral after the Olympics, when she using her $10,000 prize money from the Olympics, took to smoking Marijuana and developing a habit for painkillers. The following is an excerpt from her book from the New York post:

"Rousey began smoking and drinking heavily, often beginning her day with a cigarette and a vodka espresso. She developed a pot-and-Vicodin habit. She'd sleep in her car, and when she did find an apartment, all she could afford was a 12-by-12-foot studio.

"On more than one occasion," [Rousey] writes, "sewage would come up out of the toilet and shower, and I'd come home from work to an apartment filled with s- -t. I didn't think I could get any lower."

The above is hard to imagine, coming from MMA’s golden girl. But it is also awe-inspiring for anyone following, that a turn-around such as this is possible. Come to think of it, Ronda has been achieving the unthinkable for a while now, having brought women’s MMA to UFC. She is scheduled to take on Bethe Correia, in a title defense, on Aug 1, 2015 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
