Edmen Shahbazyan continued his winning streak tonight at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, as he put together yet another clinical performance over Darren 'The Dentist' Stewart.
In case you didn't know...
Having made his Professional MMA debut in February of 2017 against Selah Williams, 21-year-old Shahbazyan has been way too impressive throughout his MMA career thus far. Shahbazyan, who since his debut has picked up Dearmie Street, Dejon Daniels, and Aaron Hamilton, made his official UFC debut in July of 2018 against Antonio Jones on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series.
The heart of the matter
Edmen Shahbazyan and Darren Stewart squared-off in a Middleweight bout which was part of TUF 28 Finale main card. Shahbazyan, who is mostly known for his striking, also showcased his wrestling and grappling skills in this fight, displaying his well-rounded skills in a hard-fought win over Stewart.
Stewart opened the fight charging in, however, Shahbazyan quickly got hold of 'The Dentist' and stayed tight with a body hold, refusing to break the hold, and dominating the most part of the action in the first round.
Shahbazyan drove forward in the second round and looked for an early takedown and eventually got it. Stewart, who was on the defense by this point, kept his calm and did a pretty solid job, as he avoided a guillotine choke. However, despite the solid defense, Stewart wasn't able to attack as we came to the conclusion of the second round.
Shahbazyan came into the final round with a similar approach, as he found some early success, with Stewart taking advantage of the situation and taking the fight to the ground in order to land some heavy shots. Shahbazyan though was able to quickly get himself out of the situation and despite being heavily tired at the final bell, the 21-year-old was awarded the decision win.
What's next?
Edmen Shahbazyan will slowly and steadily look forward to the bigger picture in the UFC, now that he has registered a much important win over a performer like Darren Stewart.
As for 'The Dentist', he will look to bounce back from his loss as soon as possible.
