UFC Belem featured a card that seemingly lacked in star-power, however, more than made up for it in terms of fun, action matchups.

Lyoto Machida notched a win after a considerably long period of time, with Eryk Anders giving a good account of himself despite ending up on the wrong end of the judges’ decision.

The highlight of the night, however, was former UFC Women’s Bantamweight title challenger Valentina ‘Bullet’ Shevchenko utterly dominating Priscila Cachoeira—with a terribly late stoppage on part of referee Mario Yamasaki. So, without further ado, here are the complete results for UFC Belem—

#Main Card (FOX Sports 1)

#1 Lyoto Machida vs. Eryk Anders

Lyoto Machida put on a vintage Dragon-like performance at UFC Belem; using his excellent footwork to cover up for his fading athleticism and speed.

Machida landed a greater number of strikes in this matchup, while Anders was the more powerful of the duo—with the latter’s strikes seemingly doing more damage. Both fighters held on until the very end, in what was an evenly-contested bout in all avenues.

In the end, 2 of the 3 judges scored the decision in favor of the hometown hero Lyoto Machida.

Result: Lyoto Machida def. Eryk Anders via Split Decision (48-47, 47-48, 49-46)

#2 Valentina Shevchenko vs. Priscila Cachoeira

This fight could’ve very well ended up as a fatal bout for Cachoeira.

Valentina Shevchenko did her job and executed her game-plan both on the feet and the mat to a T. However, as reiterated by several MMA experts as well as UFC President Dana White in the aftermath of the fight, referee Mario Yamasaki could have stopped this fight late in Round 1 or early in Round 2 as Shevchenko landed several unanswered strikes on her downed foe.

Despite Shevchenko alluding to Cachoeira’s plight, Yamasaki urged the former to continue fighting, following which ‘Bullet’ mercifully sunk in a Rear Naked Choke and brought an end to the bout.

Yamasaki has come under fire for his careless refereeing as Dana White cast serious doubts on his UFC future in the post-fight conference. As for Pricila, she suffered a knee injury during the fight apart from serious blows to the head that could have taken its toll.


#3 Michel Prazeres vs. Desmond Green

Michel Prazeres missed weight badly, additionally, given that he wasn’t even remotely close to the weight limit, this victory seems to be a tad tarnished owing to the same.

Green had his moments in this fight, however, Prazeres controlled the rhythm of the bout over long stretches of time. Prazeres slightly edged his foe both on the feet and the mat, en route to a competitive decision victory.

#4 Timothy Johnson vs. Marcelo Golm

Johnson came in with his usual clinch-heavy game-plan and forced himself into short range with Golm.

The crowd booed throughout as Johnson attempted to tire out Golm, by turning the fight into a prolonged clinch-fest. Johnson did land a few awkward strikes, however, the majority of this matchup was spent by both fighters battling it out in the clinch, with no decisive moments in the bout, except for Johnson’s clinch control.

In the end, the judges awarded the decision victory to Timothy Johnson.

#5 Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. Marlon Vera

De Andrade put on an excellent performance at UFC Belem; controlling the distance and timing throughout this matchup.

While Vera hilariously flipped De Andrade the double-birds towards the end, the latter kept his composure and stuck to a disciplined game-plan. De Andrade’s superior rhythm also shined through, as he consistently out-struck his seemingly angry foe en route to a dominant decision win.

#6 Thiago Santos vs. Anthony Smith

Thiago Santos put on a striking clinic against Anthony Smith.

Santos came out guns blazing; tagging Smith with a barrage of precise punches, kicks and knees. The fight continued in a similar manner in Round 2, as he landed a brutal liver kick and finished off the fight with a few follow-up punches.

#Preliminary Card (FOX Sports 2)

#1 Sergio Moraes vs. Tim Means

Tim Means performed well but ended up on the wrong end of a questionable decision

Sergio Moraes and Tim Means engaged in a considerably entertaining bout.

While Means seemed to have this fight in the bag; Moraes had his moments too. Means seemed to have the slight edge in the stand-up as well as in his overall exhibition of MMA skills, however, in the end, 2 of the 3 judges decided to award the decision to Moraes.

Result: Sergio Moraes def. Tim Means via Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)


#2 Alan Patrick vs. Damir Hadzovic

Alan Patrick put on a decent performance against a game Damir Hadzovic.

Patrick showed excellent timing and distance management in the stand-up. Besides, his cardio held up well, as he pushed the pace up until the end of the bout.

In the end, Patrick seemed to have secured the fight with a dominant display in every avenue of the fight, following which the judges awarded him the decision victory.

#3 Polyana Viana vs. Maia Stevenson

Polyana Viana thoroughly out-classed Maia Stevenson both on the feet as well as the mat.

Viana seemed to slice through Stevenson’s guard; slipping in a slick Rear Naked Choke. While Viana could’ve taken her time to transition to the choke, the difference in their respective BJJ skills enabled her to skip a couple of steps, and secure the choke right away.

#4 Iuri Alcantara vs. Joe Soto

Iuri Alcantara put on an excellent performance; finishing Soto in the very first round of this bout.

Alcantara tagged Soto early, and never quite let up. The veteran tagged Soto repeatedly with a scary barrage of alternating hooks; downing the latter within the first two minutes of the fight.

Figueiredo made a huge statement at UFC Belem; finishing a gritty Joseph Morales in the second round of their bout.

Figueiredo started off cautious; measuring the distance with the jab and countering whenever the opportunity presented itself. The second stanza saw him open up even more; rocking Morales and going in for the kill with a few follow-up strikes.
