What’s the story?

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced the signing of one of the best Flyweight fighters in the world as current Invicta FC Flyweight Champion Jennifer Maia has penned down a deal with the UFC.

In case you didn’t know…

Currently training under the legendary Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil, Invicta FC’s Jennifer Maia is currently considered as the #1 ranked 125-pound female fighter in the world according to the Unified Women's MMA Rankings.

Maia made her MMA debut in the year 2009 and got off to a dream start in her career as she won her first four fights, finishing each of her opponents in the first round with three submissions and one TKO. The 29-year-old fighter currently holds an MMA record of 15 wins and 4 losses.

The heart of the matter

In a latest Instagram post, Invicta FC Flyweight Champion Jennifer Maia confirmed the news that she has come to terms and agreements with the UFC and has signed a deal with the promotion. Maia, who is currently on a six-fight win streak, captured the Invicta FC Championship back in March of 2016 when she defeated Vanessa Porto via unanimous decision and she has also successfully defended the championship belt on two different occasions ever since, as she retained her belt against Roxane Modafferi and Agnieszka Niedzwiedz.

In her Instagram post, Maia displayed her humble gratitude towards all her fans and supporters who have motivated her so far in her journey in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, as she claimed that signing a deal with the UFC is a huge conquest and an achievement.

What’s next?

Jennifer Maia’s debut date and opponent for her first fight in the UFC is yet to be announced, however, in the past, Maia herself has stated that for her debut UFC fight she is willing to go toe-to-toe with “Bullet” Valentina Shevchenko.

“If I feel any difficulties, since she’s a great striker, I’d take the fight to the ground. But I think it would be a good fight standing. I’d test myself first.”- Maia told MMA Fighting earlier this month, regarding a potential clash with Shevchenko.

The UFC’s Flyweight Division has a lot of potential in it, with the likes of Nicco Montano, DeAnna Bennett, and much more and if Jennifer Maia decides to join the 125-pound division, then there is no doubt on the fact that she will be a great addition to the division in overall.
