UFC News: Carlos Condit on the fence about retiring from MMA

After years of fearless combat, Carlos Condit is considering retirement

One of the most talented and exciting, UFC welterweights of all time, is considering walking away from the sport of mixed martial arts. That man’s name is ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Carlos Condit.

Condit was once the interim UFC welterweight champion of the world, riding a five-fight win streak, before being put down by 170-pound legend Georges St-Pierre in their main event meeting at UFC 154 in 2012, to unify the titles.

Condit was recently in Las Vegas for a Fighter’s Summit and spoke to The Las Vegas Review Journal to discuss the road ahead. He stated that he is currently undecided on his future in the Octagon:

“I’m not sure, I haven’t made a hard decision on that. But, regardless, I think all of us in our career we start putting things in place to set yourself up for success,” he said.

As of late Condit has not been in the best form. He is coming off of two heart breaking consecutive losses to the elite of the 170-pound division. The JacksonWink product earned his shot at the welterweight throne when ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler still reigned as champion, and the two clashed in the main event of UFC 195 in 2016’s first main event.

Condit and Lawler put on one of the greatest welterweight title fights of all time, in the subsequent 25-minute throw down, but sadly Condit saw the losing end of a highly controversial split decision.

Following that bout, Condit would attempt to regroup when he met Demian Maia in the main event of UFC on FOX back in August. However, Maia’s superior jiu-jitsu game made quick work of the former Interim Welterweight Champ via a submission in the first round.

Since the loss Condit has been contemplating walking away form the sport altogether, citing that he no longer has what it takes to hang in with the upper-echelon of the UFC’s 170-pound division.

‘The Natural Born Killer’ has yet to be booked in another fight as of this writing, but if his bout against Maia truly was his last Octagon appearance, then it will be a sad loss for the sport of MMA.
