UFC News: Former Interim UFC Heavyweight Champ, Shane Carwin, is welcomed by Rizin FF

Carwin opens up the beast

One of the scariest heavyweight fighters to have set foot in the Octagon is Shane Carwin. The former Interim UFC Champion recently announced his intentions to come out of retirement. This means that after Wanderlei Silva and Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic, yet another former UFC beast joins the Asian promotion in the far eastern Land of the Rising Sun.

Without any delay, the new upcoming promotion Rizin Fight Federation has already approached him and offered him a contract.

Shane Carwin will now face an unknown opponent, who is yet to be determined at the company's Open Weight Grand Prix tournament in Saitama, Japan. The former NCAA wrestler will return after five years of hiatus from the sport on December 29th.

In 2011, at the age of 36, he decided to retire, after receiving too many injuries. And now, at the age of 41, he wishes to regain the past glory.

Only this week he expressed his desire to fight, MMA legend, Fedor Emelianenko, under the Promotions’ banner. Fedor had made his return to MMA, after three years of retirement, to fight Singh Jaideep at a Rizin FF event. And so, it’s possible that the two could meet.

During his UFC journey, Carwin had few glorious moments as he was undefeated after 12 fights, with big wins over Gabriel Gonzaga. He knocked out Frank Mir to become the Interim UFC Champion.

Later, he indulged in a war with the ‘Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar, whom he battered in the first round, but unfortunately got caught in an arm-triangle choke forcing him to tap out. Fans can expect the former ‘Engineer’ to end up in a brawl with Wanderlei Silva or Mirko Cro Cop in the tournament.
