Max Holloway is the new interim featherweight champion of the UFC after defeating Anthony Pettis in the main event of UFC 206 this past weekend (Saturday, December 10, 2016) via a round three knockout.
The win sets up ‘Blessed’ for a title unification bout with the undisputed 145-pound champion Jose Aldo in the near future, who says that he’s known all along that he would be fighting the winner of Holloway and Pettis at the UFC 208 pay-per-view (PPV) event in February of 2017:
“He’s saying ‘where's Aldo?’, you have to talk to the UFC,” Aldo said (courtesy of MMA Fighting).
“About the fight in February, I already knew that, I only didn't know who I would fight. It was between him and Pettis, whoever won the fight. It’s not something new. This fight will happen on Feb. 11.”
Aldo has not competed inside the Octagon since his unanimous decision victory over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 this past July, in which ‘Scarface’ took home the interim featherweight title, before being promoted to undisputed champion due to Conor McGregor being stripped of his title.

McGregor captured the title by knocking out Aldo in the main event of UFC 194 in December of last year, becoming the second ever champion that the UFC’s featherweight division had ever seen.
Holloway is currently riding a ten-fight win streak after his win over Pettis, one of the longest active win streaks in the UFC today. The young Hawaiian has won the first UFC title of his career and seems determined to dethrone Aldo for the second time in the Brazilian’s career and sit atop the UFC’s 145-pound mountain.
UFC 208 is set to go down live on pay-per-view (PPV), on February 11, 2017, in Brooklyn, New York.
