Kevin Lee has lost two fights back-to-back. The former UFC Lightweight contender has finally talked about the changes that have been made since the two fights, as well as why he thinks he lost the two fights in the first place.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Kevin Lee opened up about the decisions he has taken to prevent a third loss. He also outlined his mental condition before the last two fights.

Kevin Lee on why he lost his last two fights

Kevin Lee said he had lacked motivation and that he took his eyes off the prize for his previous fights. He admitted he had been heading into fights in such a manner, that he had lost his love for the game.

“Instead of just going through it and bumping my head and trying to learn on the other end. I think that’s why that’s going to be really pivotal. Me gunning for that spotlight and gunning for the shine, I focused on that a little too much and lost my love for the game. Now I’m trying to shy away from it and then fall back in love with the actual fight part of it.”

Lee has now made several changes to get back to where he wants to be.

Kevin Lee on changes he has made

One of the biggest changes Kevin Lee has made recently is the fact that he has changed his gym and joined Tristar in Montreal. There he is training under Firas Zahabi. He admitted that having Zahabi in his corner has helped him already.

After losing to Iaquinta in December of 2018, he also decided that he needed to change his weight class.

"We’re welterweight now. I’m about the same size that I was preparing for lightweight. But going through that last training camp and going through that last weight cut, it kind of showed me this is where I should be. This is where I’m going to perform better. The more I do it and the more experience I get doing it, I feel like I’m just going to get better at it.”

Being welterweight might go a long way in helping Kevin Lee. As has been seen in the past, brutal weight cuts have been known to damage fighters' chances. Although Rafael dos Anjos beat him, Lee has made changes to his mindset since then.

Talking about what's next for him, Kevin Lee said that he wanted to fight as soon as the MSG show in November, and then turn around for another show in December.
