Marina Rodriguez will be facing Cynthia Calvillo at the upcoming UFC on ESPN 7 show on Saturday. The card will air on ESPN after the early prelims on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass. The undefeated Rodriguez recently opened up about the upcoming fight and stated that she has both positive as well as negative feelings towards it.

Rodriguez wanted to fight someone ranked higher up in the strawweight rankings in UFC and wasn't entirely thrilled at being matched with Cynthia Calvillo who is ranked 10 as opposed to Rodriguez who herself stands at the 9th position.

Here is what the 32-year-old had to say about her upcoming fight:

She’s a very good opponent, I don’t expect to rise in the rankings because she’s ranked behind me, but I think it’s a good name and a good opportunity for me to show my work and get some extra points there. Even though it’s not up in the rankings, it’s going to push me forward in my career.

Rodriguez will fight Calvillo in the co-headliner of UFC on ESPN 7, which will take place at Capital One Arena. Rodriguez further spoke about how she wants the fight to go down and what she expects from her opponent:

All fights so far they try to make me down. I’ve yet to find someone who wants to stand and trade with me. Cynthia at some point is probably going to try to do that, but my jiu-jitsu is better than ever. I’m always improving. We might see a submission there if she tries. (H/T credit: MMAjunkie)
