What's the story?

Ahead of The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, which features a mouth-watering clash between Kamaru Usman and Rafael Dos Anjos, the latter apparently feels that a win over Usman would put the former UFC Lightweight Champion back in contention for a shot at the Welterweight Championship.

In case you didn't know...

In mid-2017, former Lightweight Champion, Rafael Dos Anjos made the jump to the UFC Welterweight Division facing off against former Strikeforce Title holder Tarec Saffiedine. RDA would eventually go on to win the fight, as he marked his Welterweight debut in style.

Dos Anjos would then face and defeat Neil Magny and former Welterweight Champion, Robbie Lawler before eventually losing to Colby Covington at UFC 225 in an Interim UFC Welterweight Championship bout.

The heart of the matter

Rafael Dos Anjos and Kamaru Usman are all set to lock horns this Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada in the final of The Ultimate Fighter 28 and in the build-up to the fight, Dos Anjos claimed that he seemingly feels that he is worthy of yet another shot at the Welterweight Championship if he gets past Kamaru Usman later this week.

While speaking with MMAjunkie, RDA weighed in on the current situation in the Welterweight Division and shed further light on the fact that he seemingly deserves the next shot at the 170-pound division.

“Looking at the rankings, it’s kind of messed up a little bit. We just had the (Darren) Till loss (to champion Tyron Woodley), and now he’s not fighting at welterweight anymore. I fought (former champion) Robbie (Lawler) already. The only guy I saw that could put me back in the title picture would be Kamaru Usman.”

What's next?

Rafael Dos Anjos and Kamaru Usman will square off this Friday in what will be The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale. The card also features Pedro Munhoz vs Bryan Caraway and Darren Stewart vs Edmen Shahbazyan and several other mouthwatering fights.
