Joe Pyfer sounds off on the UFC's show/win pay structure

Joe Pyfer isn't happy about the UFC's payment model and recently spoke his mind on the subject of fighter pay. The middleweight contender was referring to the structure under which fighters get 50% of their pay after making weight and entering the octagon, with the remaining 50% payable after picking up a win.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Pyfer slammed the practice in general and stated:

"I think the UFC does have some bad dudes. We should be paid like the boxers because we put it on the line. One thing I'm not a fan of is the 50/50 purse. That's my only thing. I want guaranteed money... I think I've proven that I'm gonna bring it and I'm gonna look for the finish. I'm just not a decision guy. Could I have kept Kelvin on the ground? Yeah. I know I could have, but I wanted to finish."

He continued:

"I would prefer to have guaranteed money cause I think the anxiety for me is just like, man, I'm fighting one of the best guys in the world. Anything can happen. But if I don't win, I only make this much."

Speaking on a podcast uploaded to his YouTube channel, O'Malley claimed that "happiness is a skill" and said:

''Happiness is a skill. So for me to be able to go through something like that and then the next Sunday rolls around, Monday rolls around, I don't feel sad at all – I still feel really happy. I feel a little disappointed in the outcome. I feel a little frustrated, but there's no sadness inside of me. I'm holding my 14-day-old.''

He continued:

''I'll close my eyes and I'll picture things like when I started locking up the guillotine, I could've done something. I could've done this. I could've done that. But I'm like, ah, man – there's nothing I can do about it now... I still feel very good.''
