WWE/MMA News: CM Punk will compete in MTV's The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros

CM Punk will compete with other professional athletes for the long-running MTV show The Challenge.

What’s the story?

Katie Barnes of ESPNW.com has confirmed that former WWE Superstar CM Punk will compete in the latest edition of MTV’s The Challenge. This version of The Challenge will pit the past great competitors of the show against professional athletes.

In case you didn’t know...

The Challenge is a spin-off of two MTV originals, Road Rules and The Real World. The first version of the competition aired in 1998, and ever since then, a different theme has been used for each iteration.

The heart of the matter...

In addition to Punk, some of the other athletes on the show include former NFL star Shawne Merriman, track star Lolo Jones and basketball star Candice Wiggins. NFL wide receiver Victor Cruz will be the host of this six-week long series.

The show will feature competitions focused on around agility, brawn, brains, endurance, and guts. The final male and female competitors left standing will be eligible to donate the $50,000 prize money to a charity of their choice.

What’s next?

The series will debut on Tuesday, May 16th on MTV. If you want to get a taste of what the show is all about, the 29th season of The Challenge titled “Invasion of the Champions” started in February, with re-runs of it a constant on MTV.

Author’s take...

I’m not much of an MTV guy so as to speak since they got rid of their music videos, but this is certainly quite interesting. It’s a show I wouldn’t expect CM Punk to be a part of; which makes it even more intriguing.

With the amount of training that Punk has endured over the past two years to get ready for his UFC debut, he’s definitely in phenomenal shape and well worthy of putting on a solid challenge against a seasoned bunch of veterans.
