Double podium finish for Mahi Racing in World Supersport Championship

New Delhi: Mahi Racing Team India riders Fabien Foret and Kenan Sofuoglu stayed on course for a shot at the overall championship while they sealed at the podium with a second and third place finish in the sixth leg of the World Supersport championship in Portimao, Portugal on Sunday.

Foret, who began the race in fourth place, leapfrogged two riders to finish with a timing of 35’33.262 with Sofuoglu completing the podium party with a timing of 35’33.384 had started the race in the second place.

Both the riders are now tied on second spot in the overall standings with 81 points and trail leader Sam Lowes of Yakhnich Motorsport by 39 points.

Lowes took his fourth successive chequered flag on Sunday but Foret isn’t really worried.

“It is still early in the season and we can easily bridge this gap. He (Lowes) has hit a purple patch but we are not far behind,” said the confident Mahi racing Team Rider, Foret.

Though Sofuoglu finished third, he registered the fastest lap of the race on the 12th lap when he set a timing of 1’45.730 and held the lead for four of the 20 laps of the race.

“It was overall a good race for me. My bike performed very well and that shows from the fact that I managed to register the fastest lap, said Kenan at the end of the race.

Foret, meanwhile, kept a steady pace and made a charge in the last two lap to finish second, he missed the first position with a .380 second of timing behind Sam Lowes.

Team Mahi, saw lot of cheering from the local crowd and as the riders believe this too had a crucial role in their success here in Portimao.
