FIA European Carting Championship: Jehan Daruvala shines in Spain

CIK-FIA EUROPEAN KF & KF-JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Sahara Force India Driver Academy racer Jehan Daruvala fought valiantly through the field to record a good result in the Final of the CIK/FIA European Karting Championships, held in Alcaniz (Spain).

Jehan was forced to sit out free practice and was also on the receiving end of a mistake by the officials that spoiled his heat results. Despite these issues, the Academy driver set the 33rd fastest time in qualifying in a field comprising more than 80 of Europe’s top young karters. He went on through the heats and pre-final to start the final in 23rd.

The young Indian didn’t let the baking weather conditions, courtesy of the Spanish sunshine, get to his head and produced a composed, yet blisteringly fast, performance. Jehan recorded lap times faster than the race leaders, picking off one opponent after the other to take the flag in 11th, just outside the top ten.

Building on this convincing result – on a track he had never raced before – the Sahara Force India Academy driver can look with optimism to the next round of the CIK/FIA European KF Junior Championships, to take place in Ortona (Italy) on 19/21 July.

Before that he will return to the British Championships in Glan Y Gors, Wales for the second round of the series and will look to extend his championship lead in the KFJ class.
