Karun Chandhok heads to Imola eyeing a podium finish

Imola, May 13 (IANS): Indian racing driver Karun Chandhok and his team Murphy Prototypes are eyeing a podium finish in the Round 2 of the European Le Mans Series to be run at the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit here this weekend.

The first round of the series saw Chandhok and his team backed by Hertz Car Sales lose a spot on the podium due to a punctured tyre. Chandhok reeled off four consecutive fastest laps in his recovery drive to bring the car back up to eighth place after slipping to 28th position at one point.

Chandhok, a former Formula 1 driver, said: “I am looking forward to racing at Imola this weekend. Last time out in Silverstone, the car was really good but getting the puncture was just unlucky.”

“I hope we have a better weekend. Imola is one of the few anti-clockwise circuits and am looking forward to learning another new track. Our target is a podium this weekend and the race should also help us in preparing as a team for the big Le Mans 24 hours race next month.”

The Free practice 1 and 2 will take place Saturday, May 17 while Qualifying and the Race will be run Sunday, May 18.
