World champion Sebastien Loeb, favourite to claim a seventh Monte Carlo Rally victory, moved closer to his goal Saturday as he led the way after the day’s opening three specials.

Citroen driver Loeb was 1min 40sec clear of compatriot and long-time rival Sebastien Ogier, debuting for Volkswagen, going into two evening specials around Nice ahead of a night-time arrival in Monaco.

Nine-time world champion Loeb has led the season-opener since Friday’s second stage in his Citroen and is clearly bent on making the most of his limited schedule this season, having decided to race only four events in the 2013 championship.
