Mahindra Racing all set to compete in inaugural FIA Formula E Championship

Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna

As motor sports aficionados across the world get set to witness the first ever FIA Formula E championship, the world's first fully-electric racing series, the Mahindra Racing Formula E Team is ready to prove its mettle at the race. It is the eighth and the only Indian team to join the E racing series. India’s own Karun Chandhok and Brazil’s Bruno Senna are the team’s drivers for the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The championship will include 10 races in its first season in city-center locations around the world, including London, Beijing and Los Angeles. This global race is designed to raise awareness about the usage of electric vehicles in the grim phase of environmental degeneration as well as to give a boost to the EV industry.

“The Formula E series has already created a significant interest globally and this race will provide the necessary impetus to the EV ecosystem, serving as a platform to propel R&D around the electric vehicle industry and pave the way for a sustainable future. The race will be an amalgamation of kinesthetic intelligence, technology and design, exemplifying the importance of electric vehicles in the context of modern mobility,” said Chetan Maini, Director of Formula E Racing & CEO Mahindra Reva.

Mahindra Reva is a pioneer of electric vehicle (EV) technologies and one of the world's most experienced EV manufacturers. Founded in 1994 as the Reva Electric Car Company, the company was a joint venture between the Maini Group of Bangalore and AEV LLC of USA. Reva focused on creating affordable electric cars through advanced technology and launched its first model in India in 2001 and in London in 2004.

In May 2010, the Mahindra Group acquired a majority stake in the company, which was renamed Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd. Mahindra Reva is headquartered in Bengaluru, India.
