Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), May 4 (IANS): Mahindra MGP3O rider Miguel Oliveira finished 14th in the Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix with a determined ride against the odds at the Circuito de Jerez here Sunday.
It was a tough weekend for Mahindra whose both riders struggled to find the handling balance to suit the sinuous 4.423 km circuit.
Portugal’s Oliveira had qualified 12th but looked strong for the race after a good start. He was starting to work his way through the 10-strong leading group when he was struck by arm-pump problems after only five laps. Thereon, the race was an endurance test and ended 14th.
Second rider Arthur Sissis continued his run of bad luck with a gear-shift problem possibly caused by overheating of the clutch. He dropped to the back, then pitted for early retirement. The Australian is yet to open his account in the standings in his first season with Mahindra.
