Jorge Lorenzo started the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull ring from the third place while Marquez and Dovizioso started the race from first and second places respectively. However, the Spaniard had a blistering start and led the pack right after turn one.

The Spanish duo and Italy's Andrea Dovizioso soon built a gap and battled for most of the race for the lead. With only two laps to go, Lorenzo passed Marquez and defended brilliantly to take claim his third win of the 2018 MotoGP season. He beat his fellow countryman by less than 0.2 seconds, while Andrea Dovizioso finished third, some 1.6 seconds behind his teammate.

Moreover, this race, along with Assen and Aragon, is one of the most memorable races of the 2018 season.

Considered by many as one of the most thrilling motorcycle races since the dawn of the MotoGP era in 2002, the 2016 Italian Grand Prix witnessed an epic finish when Jorge Lorenzo crossed the line ahead of his Spanish adversary Marc Marquez with a meagre gap of 0.019 seconds.

With pole-sitter Rossi's retirement early in the Grand Prix, Marquez and Lorenzo found themselves battling for the lead for the most part of the race and Marquez led Lorenzo after coming out the final corner of the race. However. Lorenzo pulled in front of the Honda machine from the slipstream on the final straight to claim a very memorable race win, something that will be cherished by fans for a long time.
