Sahara Force India Driver Academy's Daruvala is a dragon in North Wales

Sahara Force India Formula One Team Academy driver, Jehan Daruvala, was back in action last weekend in the second round of the MSA British Junior Kart Championship. The Glan y Gors circuit in North Wales set the scene for some exciting races in changeable weather, in which the Indian driver battled some technical glitches to finish on the podium in second place.

The result keeps Jehan in the hunt for the title: the Sahara Force India Academy Driver is just four points shy of Championship leader Daniel Tickum with four rounds remaining on the calendar.

The next race for Jehan will be in Larkhall, Scotland on July 6/7.

Academy driver coach and mentor, Terry Fullerton said: “Bad weather and suspected electrical problems adversely affected Jehan’s performance this weekend, but a fighting recovery and a great drive to finish second from a low grid position keeps him in the hunt for the Championship title.”

Jehan Daruvala: “I tried my very best in qualifying but a problem with the carburettor cost me time and I managed to only qualify ninth. Starting in this position for my first heat, I was soon up into fourth when it started raining. I was on slicks, I pushed too hard and spun off. I fell back and finished 13th. I was disappointed because I had set the fastest lap and had a chance to score good points. In the second heat I started ninth but unfortunately I once again had a carburettor problem and the resulting lack of pace was only good enough for seventh place.

“I started 11th for my first final, but I was second fastest in the race and I was quick enough to come through and finish in third place. I was happy with everything and was in a good place for the second final. I did not have a great start from third and after the first few corners I fell to fourth. I had a tough battle for third place, which allowed the leaders to pull away a bit. Two laps later I took second place but, even though I recorded the fastest lap, I couldn’t close the gap to the leader and so I finished second. I was happy with scoring good points in both finals and finishing on the podium.”
