On lap 67 of the FireKeepers Casino 400 (Michigan), Bowman, who joined HMS full-time in 2018, was collected in a multi-car wreck, which resulted in him hitting the outside wall hard. NASCAR brought out the red flag as the #48 Chevrolet driver received his third DNF of the 2025 season.

Over the last five races, Alex Bowman has finished 35th, 5th, 29th, 36th, and 36th, translating to an average finish of 28.2. It is the second time he has had this unfortunate five-week stretch this year. He mediates Justin Haley and Cody Ware, who have average finishes of 25.8 and 28.8 (worst), respectively.

While Alex Bowman had a DNF at Michigan, Denny Hamlin won the race. Chris Buescher crossed the finish line in second place, followed by Ty Gibbs, Bubba Wallace, and Kyle Larson. Rounding out the top 10 were Ross Chastain, Zane Smith, Kyle Busch, Ryan Preece, and Brad Keselowski.

“It's been a really bad two months for us”: Alex Bowman reflects on past struggles after DNF at Michigan

Alex Bowman shared his thoughts on the team's struggles in the first half of the 2025 season. He acknowledged that things haven't gone according to plan over the last two months, presumably starting at Martinsville Speedway after losing the race to Kyle Larson the previous week.

In a press release, the 32-year-old Arizona native said:

“It just looked like the #2 (Austin Cindric) got into the #41 (Cole Custer), or he was in a bad aero spot, something like that. The #41 got loose and at that point, being on the outside, when they get into you, you're just along for the ride. Really quickly turned the car into the outside wall and it was a massive crash.”

“Hate it for our #48 Ally Chevrolet team and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports. We just have to keep digging. It's been a really bad two months for us, but we just have to keep working hard,” he added.

Despite the on-track struggles, Bowman remains optimistic. He argued that the #48 Chevrolet Camaro has the speed to compete against the frontrunners. Moreover, he said Rick Hendrick, Jeff Gordon, and Hendrick Motorsports have the tools to help turn their season around.
