Trackhouse Racing might be planning something big and it might, just might, include Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen. When NASCAR Cup Series driver Daniel Suarez dropped a post on Instagram congratulating the Dutch-Belgian driver on winning his fourth consecutive Formula 1 championship, Project 91 left a comment that had the fans go gaga.
Project 91 is an initiative by the Pitbull-owned team, which aims at breaking the barrier of nationality or language and invites the best racing talents from all over the world to race in NASCAR’s premier series.
Notably, 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Räikkönen has previously raced at Watkins Glen and COTA under the banner of Project 91. Shane van Gisbergen, a former Australian Supercars driver who now drives full-time in the Xfinity Series for Kaulig Racing, is also a product of Project 91.
Max Verstappen is currently dating Kelly Piquet, sister of Julia Piquet, Daniel Suarez’s wife. Therefore, to Suarez, Verstappen is family. The duo spends a lot of time playing Mario Kart and soap soccer. Lauding his brother-in-law on his recent success, Suarez wrote,
“Congratulations mate!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Here’s to many more Mario kart games and busting our 🍑 playing soap soccer 🤣”
Project 91 on Instagram commented,
“Can you ask him a question for us.”
Team Trackhouse on Instagram added,
“Please, Daniel.”
Does that mean Trackhouse Racing and Verstappen are going to collaborate in 2025? If so, which races will he run in NASCAR? Verstappen, however, ruled out running on ovals in an episode of the Box Box Box F1 podcast. Speaking of which, he said,
“No, No, not for me. I like to do it for fun, online, but not in real life. IndyCar, NASCAR, but I like to watch it, not to drive it myself."
There are a lot of ifs and buts as of now. But what harm does it bring the 27-year-old speedster to make just a one-off appearance in NASCAR? And if that were to happen at all, wouldn’t it be great if Verstappen and Suarez faced off in the June 15 race in Mexico City?
Daniel Suarez gears up for the “most important” race of his life
For the first time in the history of NASCAR, the sport will make a trip to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City to host a point-paying race on June 15, a week following the regular season race at Michigan International Speedway. It is also going to be the first point-paying race to be held outside of the US since 1958.
Monterrey, a city in Mexico, is where Daniel Suarez was born. Needlessly said, the 32-year-old driver is excited about NASCAR’s trip to his hometown.
"For sure it's definitely, probably going to be one of the most important races of my life," Daniel Suarez told the reporters at the Charlotte Convention Center during an interview two days ago. "It's a big deal to go to Mexico to race in front of my people and my country. I don't want to say too much but I think everyone including myself..we're going to experience something unbelievable because the fans down there in Mexico... they are very very passionate." (0:10)
Suarez has raced before in Mexico in the NASCAR Mexico Series and the NASCAR Toyota Series. But never in the Cup Series.
“I have raced in Mexico before...but never in the Cup Series. So it's a completely different level," he explained. (0:58)
The most-awaited race will air live on Amazon Prime with radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. The number of laps in the race is yet to be announced.
