After clinching his third NASCAR Cup Series win of the season at Michigan, Denny Hamlin gave fans a personal update about him and his fiancée, Jordan Fish, expecting their third child any day now. In a video shared on X by journalist Dustin Long, Hamlin opened up about baby names, their unusual naming process, and balancing racing and preparing for fatherhood.
In the post, Long asked Hamlin whether the Michigan win might influence the name they choose for their baby. The tweet was captioned:
“#NASCAR … I asked Denny Hamlin if today’s win at Michigan will inspire him and Jordan Fish to select a baby name that ties into this race in any way. His response …”
In the video, Hamlin explains that the couple is using a dating app-style system to pick names. They swipe left or right on suggestions until both match a name they like. So far, they’ve saved 13 to 15 names.
“I have one hung up from the beginning,” Hamlin said.
However, Jordan Fish seems to have drawn a line, telling him he can either keep pushing for his preferred race schedule or win the name debate, not both. Hamlin said he chose the name, hinting that if something meaningful came out of the Michigan win, it might be the final inspiration they need.
Denny Hamlin, 44, clinched his 57th career win on Sunday, June 8, at Michigan International Speedway, driving the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. He passed William Byron with just four laps left, pulling away for a clear win over Chris Buescher. The win made him the all-time winningest driver in JGR history, surpassing Kyle Busch’s 56 wins.
“We’re just trying to wait until Sunday night”: Jordan Fish hopes baby will hold off for Denny Hamlin’s race
Denny Hamlin’s partner, Jordan Fish, is now over 40 weeks pregnant and was hoping to time the birth so Hamlin could complete the Michigan race before their son arrives. In an Instagram story on Saturday, June 7, Fish shared a light-hearted moment with their daughter, Taylor James, who asked if she was trying hard enough to enter labor. Fish responded that they were hoping to wait just a little longer.
“I can’t because dad’s gone,” she said. “So we’re trying to wait for a couple of days until Sunday night when it’s clear, and Monday... Sunday night we can try again.”
The couple, together for over 15 years, already have two daughters. Their younger child, Molly Gold, was born in 2017. Earlier this year, they announced their engagement and revealed the gender of their third child in a video shared on May 11.
“Happy Mother’s Day @xojordanfish! It’s a boy 🤣💙,” they captioned the post.
Despite being deep into the NASCAR season, Denny Hamlin has been fully engaged at home. Just last week at Nashville Superspeedway, he was seen on “baby duty,” balancing racing with preparations for the new arrival.
