The driver of the #43 Toyota Camry XSE fielded by Jimmie Johnson's NASCAR Cup Series team, Erik Jones, was on the receiving end of a massive impact during the 2024 GEICO 500. Jones was seen crashing head-first into the outside wall at Talladega Superspeedway as Toyota-manufactured cars tried to team up and reverse the fuel-saving tactics at the 2.6-mile-long oval in their favor.

The plan was destined to work before Bubba Wallace, John Hunter Nemechek and Jones were seen wiggling as their cars attempted to bump-draft aggressively, resulting in a major crash. Erik Jones was heard calling out for help regarding his back as rescue officials took him out of his car. The #43 driver was released from the infield care center and taken to UAB University Hospital for further evaluation.

According to Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter Daniel McFadin, Legacy Motor Club has now announced that the 27-year-old driver has been evaluated and released from the hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, with Jones heading to his home in North Carolina thereafter.

While further details about the nature of the evaluation have not been released by the team, it is safe to assume that the impact of his crash at Talladega Superspeedway came close to hurting Erik Jones, but the LMC driver narrowly escaped.

Fans react to Erik Jones returning home after brutal Talladega crash

NASCAR fans reacted to the news of Legacy Motor Club driver Erik Jones returning to his house after an extended evaluation at a local Alabama hospital after his savage crash during the 2024 GEICO 500.

The #43 Toyota Camry XSE driver was seen clobbering the outside wall at Talladega Superspeedway and raising alarms after talking about discomfort in his back after the impact. While Jones was checked and released from the infield care center, he opted to get further analysis at UAB University Hospital.

Fans reacted to the news of Jones returning home after his analysis at the hospital and breathed a sigh of relief. Here are some of the best reactions:

"I’m grateful he’s able to go home. That angle into the wall looked eerily familiar"
"The wreck last year with the 12 at Daytona and this wreck with the 43 are still the scariest to see as a fan. I’m not sure the sport is respecting the dangers of this type of racing."
"They should just bring back the gen 6 car for superspeedways and short tracks," added another fan.

Meanwhile, NASCAR prepares to go racing once again at Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
