Retired NASCAR driver Kurt Busch took his girlfriend Lyda Moore to the November 24 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers at the Bank of America Stadium. As he uploaded a few snaps from the grandstands, the 46-year-old dropped a hint that he might return to racing soon.
Busch announced his retirement from the NASCAR Cup Series at the Daytona International Speedway on August 26, 2023. The NASCAR vet explained that a concussion from running a practice session at Pocono in July 2022 kept him from bringing his A-game to the table. Reports further suggest that he has also been suffering from other health issues like arthritis and gout.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Busch wrote,
“Took my “Missouri Girl” - a Life long @Chiefs fan, to see them take on the @Panthers. Thanks to @firstnationalbank and Greg Wilcox, damn good vibe. But…seriously too much football lately. Let’s get it back to fast cars and racing!
What Busch meant by getting back to fast cars and racing is not clear yet. Is he planning on doing a one-off appearance? Or perhaps a part-time schedule? For now, that is for the fans to speculate on.
Currently, Busch serves as an advisor to 23XI Racing, a soon-to-be three-car Cup Series team owned by Denny Hamlin and former NBA star, Michael Jordan. He is also the brand ambassador for Monster Energy, a $52.25 billion beverage company that is known to have sponsored Cup Series regulars like Ty Gibbs and Tyler Reddick in the past.
“It was such an amazing Championship run”- Kurt Busch reminisces 2004 achievement
Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kurt Busch has been associated with several big-shot teams like Penske Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, Furniture Row Racing, Phoenix Racing, Roush Racing, and Chip Ganassi Racing, which by itself, is an achievement.
However, when Joey Logano won this year’s NASCAR Cup Series title, the veteran racer reflected on arguably the greatest accomplishment in his career.
Busch won the 2004 Cup Series championship. What makes the feat even more impressive is that it was just his fourth full season in the series. Busch closed the season with three wins and 21 top-10 finishes.
Recalling the moment, Busch tweeted,
“Do you remember this? 20 years ago today, It was such an amazing Championship run. Teamwork makes the dream work. - Congrats to @joeylogano and his 3rd title in 2024. #nascar #20yearsago”
Logano, who drives the No. 22 Mustang for Team Penske, bagged his third championship title, his second under the elimination-style playoff format. With that, he became one of the only five drivers, the others being Jimmie Johnson, Richard Petty, David Pearson, and Jeff Gordon, to win three championships before turning 35.
