NASCAR Truck Series champion Ty Majeski recently opened up about how changes in tire compound for the Snowball Derby would impact the race compared to the previous season and other event events held at the Five Flag Speedway. The brand Hoosier announced they will be changing the compound after facing issues with the previously used compounds.

The Snowball Derby is the biggest pavement short-track racing event held North America. The race is a 300-lap event for Super Late Model cars and takes place on the first Sunday of December at the Five Flag Speedway located in Pensacola, Florida.

The series started the event with ST1 tires on the left side and ST2 on the right side after running on the F45s compound for a long time. But during autumn testing, the brand Hoosier found that the ST1 and ST3 combination is a much better combination for the biggest Late Model race.

“They’ve had some issues with the ST2s and didn’t think they should bring it to the Snowball. It’s a testament to Hooiser that they’re working on fixing their problems. I’m confident they’re going to be fixed. I don’t think we’ll see any problems, which is a good thing for everybody,” stated Ty Majeski (via ShortTrackScene.com).

The NASCAR Craftsman Series champion pointed out that the new tire compound is more durable and won't wear off quickly compared to the previous tire compound. This will result in fast cars staying competitive throughout the race.

"It’s going to throw a loop into things,” Majeski said. “It’s going to be a much harder right-side tire—the same tire we run at Nashville and Winchester, those places. That’s going to be the biggest difference this year. I don’t think you’re going to see as much falloff, or, I should say, as much wear," stated Ty Majeski.

The NASCAR Craftsman champion also revealed how he made history with his win at the Phoenix Raceway on November 8, 2024.

“Started as an engineer”: Ty Majeski on making history with a title win at the Championship 4 race

Ty Majeski was crowned the champion at the final race of the Truck Series on November 8, 2024, and made history for ThorSport Racing. With his win, the team became the first Truck Series team to secure multiple back-to-back titles.

ThorSports Racing won their first back-to-back title in 2013-2014 and now in 2023-2024. Matt Crafton won the first title for the team in 2013-2014, followed by Ben Rohdes in 2023 and Ty Majeski in 2024, making history. In a post-race interview, the 2024 Truck Series champion reminisced about his initial days of joining the team and how life turned out for him.

"It's possible you just need to find your way to find a way to set yourself apart from everybody else. And I did that by working in the shop; I started as an engineer at ThorSport in 2021; with three or four races, I didn't know what it was gonna turn into and now a champion," stated Ty Majeski.

Tricon Garage driver Corey Heim finished as the runner-up, followed by McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver Christian Eckes in third place and CR7 driver Grant Enfinger in fifth place.
