Veteran driver Kyle Busch has been in an extensive slump in his Cup Series career for nearly two seasons. As NASCAR heads to Michigan International Speedway this weekend, NASCAR insider Cameron Richardson has expressed concern for the former champion and his Hendrick Motorsports rival, Alex Bowman's performance at the two-mile D-shaped oval.
Two-time Cup Series champion Busch is the most decorated driver in the Cup Series field. He has not only secured two Cup titles but also has an Xfinity championship to his credit. The Richard Childress Racing driver has amassed over 232 race wins across the three national series.
Meanwhile, HMS driver Bowman had a fruitful start to his Cup Series campaign. However, his recent performances have not been up to the mark. Reflecting on both Busch and Bowman's recent misfortunes, Richardson expressed his concerns for both drivers and their playoff eligibility this season.
"Alex Bowman looked like a playoff lock early in the season with top 10s in five of the first six races. But the No. 48 driver has gone ice cold since Martinsville with finishes of 27th or worse in six of the last eight races." Richardson wrote (via NASCAR).
"Owning a slim two-point buffer with the last playoff spot at the moment, Kyle Busch will have eyes plastered on him all weekend. The problem hasn’t been the speed in the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, it’s been being on the wrong side of luck for the last two years." he added.
Busch secured a top-five finish at Michigan last season, crossing the start-finish line in P4. He would be looking to better his result in this year's Firekeepers Casino 400 and lock himself in the playoffs at the earliest.
You can catch the race at Michigan on June 8 at 2 p.m. Eastern time. The broadcast will be available on Amazon Prime Video.
Corey LaJoie says Spire faced unwanted results with Kyle Busch
Former Cup Series driver Corey LaJoie recently announced his return to the Truck Series for nine races this season. He will be replacing Kyle Busch in the Spire Motorsports Truck Series lineup, starting with the race at Michigan.
Following his announcement, LaJoie revealed how Kyle Busch was not able to fit the part in Spire's #7 Chevy in the four races he started for the team.
"They asked me to do it and I was like 'Yeah sure, got some weekends open.' That Truck is going to be the best on the field that I've ever driven. Obviously, to win is the goal, but to progress that Truck team. You know, they had a couple of off weeks with Kyle (Busch) driving. So, would love to just have a couple of great runs off the bat here," LaJoie said via Frontstretch [3:00 onwards].
The Truck Series race is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, at noon Eastern. Catch the race live on FOX Sports and SiriusXM.
