Chase Briscoe has been driving in the NASCAR Cup Series nursing his broken finger for more than a month. The Stewart Haas Racing driver injured his left hand's middle finger while racing in a dirt late model car on April 6, before the Bristol dirt race.

Briscoe underwent surgery a week later, with pins inserted to support his broken finger. A month later at the All-Star weekend at North Wilkesboro Speedway, he revealed that the pins were removed. However, he continues to wear a splint to support the broken finger.

Speaking to Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass, Briscoe explained why he still continues to wear a splint.

"I still do the same thing I have been doing, at least for the time being. My bone was healed on the outside but the inside was still cracked. I still gonna have to wear the splint to kind of support it."

The 28-year-old also gave a recovery timeline, adding that he had enough strength to drive a car:

"I think it will at least still be two more weeks. I know that Late model race, the hand part that I normally wear fell out and I finally have enough strength that I can drive. But the splint part is definitely holding it"

Pockrass then humorously asked the #14 driver if he could put on his pants and tighten his shoes, to which he replied:

"I can do all that now... I could do nothing for the first two weeks, but I'm good to go now."

Chase Briscoe drove brilliantly in the first three races after his injury but his results in the recent races have been unimpressive. Briscoe finished inside the top five in the three races following his injury. He then finished outside the top 30 in the next couple of races followed by a 17th-place finish at Darlington Raceway.

The #14 driver lines up fifth in the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway on Sunday (May 21), hoping to change his fortunes.

Three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen has confirmed his NASCAR debut at the Chicago street race, driving the Project 91 car for Trackhouse Racing. The Kiwi will drive the #91 Chevrolet in its second entry this season.

Van Gisbergen expressed his excitement for his NASCAR debut as he said:

"To get an opportunity to be part of it and jump straight into the top level in America, it's unbelievable. Getting people from all around the world to come and try NASCAR, it's really cool. My family’s pretty excited, my father’s going to go over and watch."

Shane van Gisbergen has plenty of experience in tin-top racing. He is following the footsteps of the Australian Marcus Ambrose, who left the Supercars series to drive full-time in the Cup Series in the late 2000s.
