NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin recently sparked curiosity among NASCAR fans by posting a cryptic GIF of Leonardo DiCaprio on social media without any caption or explanation. The vague message left many speculating about its meaning, with fans trying to connect it to Hamlin's racing career, upcoming announcements, or other personal ventures.
Hamlin, who pilots the #11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, secured his spot in the 2024 playoffs after driving down victory lane in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. However, despite his best efforts, the 43-year-old was eliminated from the playoffs after the Round-of-8 finale at Martinsville Speedway. The Virginia native is still in pursuit of his first Cup Series title.
Recently, Denny Hamlin shared a contextless GIF on X (formerly Twitter), leaving several NASCAR fans puzzled about his intentions. Here's a look at his post:
Hoping for the reason behind the GIF to be a good news, a fan wrote:
"Denny…. Please please let it be good."
"Sign Kyle Busch and I’ll defend you from NASCAR for free 24/7," a fan expressed.
"Denny getting denied another championship after saying its his year again (2024 colorized)," a fan jokingly wrote.
"He’s not retiring. He’s going to go full throttle into year 2025 in NASCAR," a fan claimed.
"Denny managed to go from being booed on a weekly basis to rallying NASCAR Twitter in record time," a fan wrote.
Meanwhile, one fan criticized the antitrust lawyer hired by Denny Hamlin's 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports for representing them in court against NASCAR and its CEO Jim France.
"It’s starting to feel like you and Mike got fleeced by a greedy lawyer bud….The merits of the case are spot on, the advice on timeline and first steps, not so much. Lots of billable hours there tho I’m sure," the fan expressed.
Meanwhile, 23XI Racing and FRM had requested to retain their charters for the 2025 season via a preliminary injunction in the 23XI-FRM/NASCAR's legal battle. However, U.S. District Judge Frank D. Whitney, on Friday, denied a motion for their preliminary injunction.
Denny Hamlin's 23XI and FRM file appeal on denial of preliminary injunction
Ahead of the 2024 playoffs, NASCAR urged all teams to sign the new, heavily disputed charter deal. Denny Hamlin and NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan-owned 23XI and Front Row Motorsports decided to not sign the new agreement. Moreover, they filed an antitrust lawsuit against the organization and its CEO Jim France.
As Both 23XI and FRM refused to sign the deal, their future in the sport was clouded with doubt. To clear the fog, both teams filed for a preliminary injunction to allow them to retain their charters despite the ongoing legal battle. However, the injunction was denied.
Denny Hamlin's 23XI and FRM have now filed for an appeal against the denial of their injunction, as reported by journalist Joseph Srigley of Toby Christie on X.
"NEWS: 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have filed a 'Notice of Appeal' and will appeal the denial of the preliminary injunction to the U.S. Court of Appeals," Srigley wrote.
If their appeal is not approved, 23XI and Front Row Motorsports might have to compete via the 'open' agreement provided by NASCAR.
