Chandigarh netball team disqualified from National Games

The Chandigarh team has been sent back home

The Chandigarh Netball team have been disqualified from the National Games, after attempting to avail a participation certificate for a non-participating player.

Netball Competition Director, Lalit Jiwani, lodged an official complaint with the local police for forgery and criminal conspiracy against the Netball Association of Chandigarh. The accused include officials, players, coaches, managers and selection committee.

Chandigarh had registered 14 players for the event but only fielded 13 on the day of their arrival.

A National Games official said, “When asked about the remaining player, the team officials said he was unwell and hence moved out of the stadium. But, an enquiry carried out by the Netball Federation of India officials found that the said player had not even arrived in Kerala for the Games. But, somebody else had been found to be signing under his name in the records in these days.”

The disqualification of Chandigarh meant that Karnataka got an entry into the semi-finals. However, they lost to Kerala in the positional play-off final.
