Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, coming off an offseason in which their loss of Tyreek Hill has been a core discussion, have added another prime receiver. Kadarius Toney is now a member of the Chiefs via a trade with the New York Giants.

According to Jordan Schultz, the wide receiver was traded for a conditional third-round pick and a sixth-round pick.

Patrick Mahomes now has Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, and Kadarius Toney in the receiving corps.

The team is also on a bye this week, providing bonus time to the wide receiver to get caught up on the playbook in time for Week 9 when Mahomes faces the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football.

Toney was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season, the wide receiver had 420 yards and zero touchdowns. As a first-round pick, fans expected a bigger breakout season but held on for 2022.

Despite a 6-1 opening record, the wide receiver has been almost a complete no-show this season.

He suffered a thigh sprain/pull in August. Despite attempting to play through it, the injury eventually sidelined him in Weeks 3-7, according to Draft Sharks.

In 2022, the wide receiver has caught two passes for zero yards. Now, after spending a month on the sidelines, the Chiefs will be hoping to get a 100 percent healthy Toney.

Since Week 3, it will have been seven weeks since the last time he set foot on the field. Week 15 of 2021 was the last time he was fully healthy setting foot on the field.

However, he didn't finish the season last year, either.

If he plays in Week 9 and Week 10, it will be the first time he suits up for two consecutive games since Weeks 9 and 10 of 2021.

Kadarius Toney contract

The new Chiefs receiver is playing on a deal that is fully guaranteed for about $5.2 million through 2024 with a potential fifth-year option, per Tom Pelissero.
