Hali Flickinger: A Brief Biography

Hali Flickinger is an American female swimmer born on 7th July 1994. She is a native of York city in Pennsylvania, United States. Hali specializes in Butterfly stroke and represents the USA in 200m Butterfly.


Background:


Hali Flickinger was born to Douglas Flickinger and Lea Flickinger. She was born and brought up in York city in Pennsylvania. She has a younger brother, Chase Flickinger.



Hali pursued her interest in swimming at a young age. While growing up, she was trained by coach Michael Brooks at the York YMCA Aquatics Club. Hali attended Spring Grove High School in her hometown, where she took up competitive swimming. While at high school, she was crowned two-time national champion in the 200m Butterfly at the YMCA Short Course National Championships.


In 2012, after graduating from high school, Hali joined the University of Georgia, where she became a member of the Georgia Bulldogs swimming team and trained under Jack Bauerle. She had represented them at the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming Championships (2012-2017).


In 2017, Hali Flickinger graduated with a degree in Finance from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. She is currently training with coach Bob Bowman at the Arizona State University.


Rise to Glory:


Hali Flickinger received her first international exposure in 2011 when she competed in the 100m Butterfly at the World Junior Swimming Championships. The following year, NCAA debut while representing Georgia Bulldogs and finished 13th in the 200y Butterfly and 14th in the 400y Medley at the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming Championships.


In 2014, Hali won her first national medal by taking home Bronze in 200m Freestyle at the USA National Swimming Championships. The following year, she bagged four national medals, including a title in 200m Freestyle, two Silver medals in 200m and 400m Freestyles, and a Bronze in 200m Backstroke.


At the 2015 World University Games, Halu won a Gold medal in 4x200m Freestyle and two Bronze in 200m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley. That year, she won a Silver medal in 400y Medley and a Bronze in 200y Freestyle.


Hali Flickinger holds the US Open swimming record in 200m Freestyle.


Major Achievements:


Hali Flickinger made her senior international debut at the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, where she placed 10th in the 100m Butterfly event final. In 2016, she appeared in her debut Olympics at the Rio Olympics and finished 7th in the 200m Butterfly final.


At the World Aquatics Championships, Hali won a Gold medal in 4x200m Freestyle (2017) and a Silver in 200m Butterfly (2019). In 2018, she clinched the Gold medal in 200m Butterfly at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.


Hali Flickinger will look to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the US Olympic Trial and probably be in contention to win a medal in the 200m Butterfly.
