According to USA Today, the late-night show host addressed the controversy surrounding the suspension of the show for the first time after ABC and its parent company, Disney, faced a wave of criticism. The Emmy-winning comedian began his monologue by recounting the support he received since his suspension.

While Kimmel reportedly teared up during his nearly 18-minute opening monologue, the 57-year-old television host also made a light-hearted joke, which made the studio audience erupt with laughter.

After addressing his comments on Charlie Kirk, Jimmy opened up about the alleged conditions that Disney has set for his return on-air.

“A lot of people have been asking me if there are conditions for my return to the air, and there is one. Disney has asked me to read the following statement, and I agreed to do it. Here we go: ‘To reactivate your Disney+ and Hulu account, open the Disney+ app on your smart TV or TV-connected device,’” Jimmy quipped.

The late-night show host also thanked Disney for bringing him back on air following his brief suspension. Noting that he has been “fortunate” to work at the American entertainment conglomerate for almost 23 years, Jimmy added:

“I've done almost 4,000 shows on ABC, and over that time, the people who run this network have allowed me to evolve and to stretch the boundaries of what was once traditional for a late-night talk show, even when it made them uncomfortable, which I do a lot... I am very grateful for that.”

According to the BBC, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled from ABC “indefinitely” nearly a week after the 57-year-old host made controversial remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s comments about the shooting of Charlie Kirk and the Trump administration caused uproar earlier this month.

Donald Trump denounces Jimmy Kimmel’s return

US President Donald Trump announced his displeasure over the return of Jimmy Kimmel. According to The Guardian, before the late-night talk show host went on-air for Tuesday’s broadcast, the US politician shared his thoughts on Truth Social.

“I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back… Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE.”

Hinting that further action could be taken against the network, Donald Trump added:

“He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative.”

“The President of the United States made it very clear he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs. Our leader celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can't take a joke.”

Meanwhile, during his Tuesday monologue, Kimmel said his comments were not intended to make light of Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer. Kirk, who was an ally of Donald Trump, was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10.
