A teenager pushed his way into Donna Ongsiako's New Jersey farmhouse one night in July 2013, a few days after the Fourth of July weekend, and brutally stabbed her before grabbing her car keys, purse, and a lighter and fleeing the scene. She was soon rushed to the hospital and after several hours of surgery, survived the incident.

Authorities soon identified a local 16-year-old named Brennan Doyle as a suspect. Doyle was finally arrested in October of that year after a stretched investigation produced multiple pieces of evidence, including his DNA, that linked him to the crime. Doyle later claimed that he was under the influence of hallucinogenic "magic" mushrooms when he attacked Ongsiako.

This Saturday, CBS 48 Hours will take a look at stabbing survivor Donna Ongsiako's case in an episode titled A Stabbing in Colts Neck. The synopsis states:

"A woman outwits a young stranger who attacked her in her own home. What will it take to find him? 48 Hours contributor Jim Axelrod reports."

The upcoming episode airs on the channel at 10:00 pm ET on May 20, 2023.

Donna Ongsiako was stabbed multiple times, robbed, and left to die at her remote farmhouse by an intruder

On the night of July 7, 2013, Donna Ongsiako, a mother-of-one from the central New Jersey town of Colts Neck, heard scratching at the door of her remote farmhouse.

Assuming it was her cat, she went downstairs to let it in when she spotted a stranger on her porch attempting to cut her screen door using a knife. She was home alone at the time since her daughter Kiersten was at a nearby party.

Ongsiako immediately tried to shut the door, but the intruder stuck the knife through the opening and cut her finger before pushing his way into the house. He then began brutally stabbing her incessantly until she collapsed.

The attacker then asked her for her car keys and a lighter and fled the scene after grabbing both items along with her purse, but not before stabbing her one last time in the chest.

Ongsiako didn't have any neighbors who could hear her calls for rescue and had to make her way up the stairs, to reach her phone and dial 911. She managed to inform first responders about her exact location and also gave a detailed description of the intruder before losing consciousness.

After help arrived, she was rushed to the hospital and went into surgery for more than seven hours, which stabilized her condition and allowed her to survive the event.

Ongsiako's abandoned car was found near a movie theater. When authorities discovered the stolen vehicle, its lights were on, and it was still running. They also discovered blood all over the car, which authorities claimed was key evidence in the investigation.

Local police launched a manhunt based on the specific description of the attacker Donna Ongsiako provided during the 911 call - a male who appeared to be 17 years old and had long, blond, curly hair, and was carrying a backpack.

Not long after, they got a crucial tip from a Taco Bell five miles from her home. Employees reported having spotted a young, blond male pounding on windows while holding a knife as he walked through their drive-thru.

In two days' time, authorities got a Taco Bell customer to assist them in making a sketch of the perpetrator. After six more days, the sketch assisted police in securing a tip that led them to 16-year-old Brennan Doyle.

According to the tip, Doyle had recently cut his long, skater-style hair, short. In late July, detectives then visited Doyle who resided with his family not far from Donna Ongsiako's farmhouse.

A few months later, employees at a bowling alley in the mall where Ongsiako's car was found abandoned called the police to inform them about a knife on their roof. An identical knife was found at the suspect's house.

Moreover, Doyle's DNA matched the one discovered in Ongsiako's stolen vehicle. He was arrested in October and charged with six counts, including attempted murder and carjacking.

Brennan Doyle initially pleaded not guilty, claiming that on the night he attacked Donna Ongsiako, he was under the influence of hallucinogenic "magic" mushrooms. He agreed to a plea deal in August 2015.

Doyle pleaded guilty to attempted murder and carjacking as the prosecution dropped the other charges. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison in October of that year.
