Fact Check: Did Elon Musk lose a child? Tesla CEO's statement on trans child's death by the 'woke mind' virus explained 

On July 22, Elon Musk appeared for an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Dr. Jordan Peterson for Daily Wire, where he spoke about figuratively losing his transgender child to the “woke mind virus.”

Elon Musk claimed that he was “tricked” into agreeing to gender-affirming care procedures for his trans daughter, whom he referred to by her dead name Xavier.

"I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was really before I had any understanding of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion and I was told Xavier might commit suicide if he doesn’t…" the SpaceX CEO said.

While Elon Musk claimed that his trans daughter was “killed” by the “woke mind virus,” in reality, the kid is alive and estranged from her father. She now goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson and is 20 years old.

Elon Musk has “vowed” to battle the “woke mind virus”

During a recent appearance on Daily Wire, Elon Musk told interviewer Dr. Jordan Peterson how he was on a mission to change the “woke” mindset, which he refers to as a “virus” that he claimed was behind gender transitioning.

The X owner called gender-reassignment surgery “child mutilation and sterilization” and said he was “tricked” into signing for such procedures for his trans daughter, who he claimed underwent the same during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I was tricked into doing this. I lost my son, essentially. They call it 'deadnaming' for a reason. The reason they call it ‘deadnaming’ is because your son is dead. My son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus," he claimed.

The Tesla owner added that the expression “gender-affirming care” was a “terrible euphemism” and procedures, including surgeries, hormone therapies, and puberty blockers, were used by children who were “far below the age of consent.”

He said that whoever advocated for the practice was “incredibly evil” and agreed with Dr. Peterson’s opinion that such people deserved to “go to prison.”

"I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that. And we’re making some progress," Musk shared while recalling his own experience.

Despite Elon Musk claiming that his eldest child was “dead,” she is alive and well. In June 2022, she underwent gender transitioning at the age of 18 and legally changed her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson in Santa Monica, California.

Back then, Vivian said that her name change was not only a reflection of her brand-new gender identity but also an act of emancipation from her father. In a petition filed in April 2022 in LA County Superior Court, she claimed:

"I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form."

Vivian is one of the twins born via IVF to Elon Musk and his first wife and Canadian author Justin Wilson in 2004.

Last week, seemingly attempting to counter wokeness, the 53-year-old billionaire announced that he would be shifting the SpaceX headquarters from California to Texas.

He shared that the move was a response to California Governor Gavin Newsom passing a law preventing school districts from informing parents if their kids use gender identities or pronouns different from the school records, calling it the “final straw.”

This is not the first time Elon Musk has called out the “woke mind virus.” Earlier, in December 2021, during an interview with The Babylon Bee, he called it “arguably one of the greatest threats to modern civilization” and claimed it was leading to a “world without humor.”
