After an old photo of actress Meryl Streep started going around the internet, some started thinking that maybe she is related to singer-actress Sabrina Carpenter. It all started with an X post that compared a photo of a young Streep, and the former Disney star as evidence that they are related by blood.
X user @brbiesdoll uploaded the tweet on September 5, with a caption,
“People not knowing Sabrina carpenter and Meryl Streep are related is so funny to me, they literally look so similar.”
This might have stemmed from the fact that Carpenter’s recent music video, Taste, where she collaborated with Jenna Ortega, is inspired by Meryl Streep’s 1992 classic, Death Becomes Her.
However, the claim is actually not true. It has already been debunked by sources like Distractify and some X users. According to them, the two actresses might look a lot alike, but they do not share a family tree.
Sabrina Carpenter is NOT related to Meryl Streep
Speculation regarding a potential relationship between singer Sabrina Carpenter and Hollywood icon Meryl Streep has been making rounds on the internet. After the photo, showing how much the two women resembled one another, went viral, netizens started making the claim.
The photos, uploaded by X user @brbiesdoll on September 5, show that the young pop star and the seasoned actress have similar traits, such as blue eyes, pink cheeks, long blonde hair, and identical noses.
Many people thought that the tweet was real after it went viral. However, despite the fact that Sabrina and Meryl appear to be quite similar, they are not related.
Furthermore, the claim has been debunked by other X users and other sources like Distractify which further showed that the viral claim is not true.
Meryl Streep was born to pharmaceutical executive Harry William Streep Jr. and art editor Mary Wolf Wilkinson. She is the oldest of three children. Her younger brothers are Harry William III and Dana David.
The father of Streep was of Swiss and German descent. The origins of her father's family may be traced to Germany, from where her second great-grandfather, Gottfried Streep, emigrated to the US. Her father's side of the family was also from Giswil in Switzerland. Additionally, her mother was English, Irish, and German by birth.
Sabrina Carpenter, on the other hand, was born to David Carpenter and Elizabeth Carpenter (Cartwright). David is a chef and Elizabeth is a chiropractor. Sabrina's parents are believed to be American by birth. While her mother’s ancestry is not confirmed, her father was born in Ohio.
Nevertheless, the tweet might have originated from the concept of Carpenter’s recent music video Taste, in which she collaborated with Jenna Ortega to create a piece that pays tribute to the Meryl Streep masterpiece Death Becomes Her, in which two women fight to death for the same guy.
Sabrina and Meryl may be unrelated, but Sabrina is undoubtedly a fan of Meryl, which she proved by creating her latest music video and taking inspiration from one of Meryl's famous characters.
Nonetheless, Sabrina Carpenter is linked to another well-known person in Hollywood, actress Nancy Cartwright who is her aunt. Cartwright has been the voice of Bart on The Simpsons for a long time.
She has also voiced different characters in Kim Possible, My Little Pony, Twilight Zone: The Movie, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and the 1998 Godzilla film.
Cartwright is said to have been born to Frank and Miriam Cartwright in Dayton, Ohio. She was raised in the neighboring town of Kettering with her five siblings, including Carpenter's father.
Nevertheless, following the viral tweet, neither Sabrina Carpenter nor Meryl Streep have said anything about the whole thing.
