At the conclusion of Season 3, Grace Stone (Athena Karkanis) died after being stabbed by another passenger, Angelina Meyer (Holly Taylor), who also abducted Eden, her daughter.

Netizens believe Grace Stone's untimely death was a mistake because her death benefits neither the plot nor any other character. It essentially undermines everything the Stones have accomplished over the first and second seasons.

In Season 3 of Manifest, a new chapter for the Stone family began as Ben was further inspired to find the answers and protect his family by the addition of another child. Grace no longer felt the "callings," but she was still deeply involved in everything that was happening and was inspired by how their family was developing. Additionally, Eden, their newborn, began exhibiting some sort of "calling."

But Season 3 stood out because it gave Grace a story that wasn't about her husband or kids. Grace brought Cal (Jack Messina) to her brother's house when he was in danger, where they reconnected and patched up their strained relationship after being apart for a long time. Sadly, he passed away immediately after that, but this sparked something in Grace.

Grace made the decision to open a restaurant using her family's recipes in order to honor her side of the family, especially her dad and brother. After two seasons, Grace had discovered a new goal and was moving forward with it. For the most part, her family was intact and content. But then, Angelina (Holly Taylore) stabbed her and took Eden hostage.

How was the relationship between Ben and Grace?

Ben initially returned home after his disappearance and found that Grace had mourned him, moved on, and even begun dating someone else. When Ben became overly obsessed with finding out what had happened to Flight 828, Grace kicked him out of the house, and the two could have easily called it quits at that point.

Although it was occasionally annoying given that everyone was supposed to be rooting for Ben, Grace and Danny (Daniel Sunjata) did have a wonderful relationship despite the rough waters they were treading that could have resulted in divorce.

Ben battled to win Grace back throughout the entire season, in many ways. Above all, through these episodes, we really got a sense of how much Ben loved Grace and how eager he was to prove to her that their marriage was worthwhile.

With Grace's pregnancy and her introduction to the Callings, the couple's second season got underway. The episodes explored how deep their relationship went, and Grace's own callings made it clear to her how important it was that Ben find the truth and safeguard their family.

The point in the season finale when Grace's pregnancy complications put both of their lives in danger really solidified Ben and Grace's bond as the strongest on the show. It happened when, against her will, Ben told a sleeping Grace that he would choose to save her over the child. That was how devoted he had become to her. A time of development and reconciliation for the Stone family, who were now reunited and content.

Why is Grace Stone's death viewed as a mistake?

The main reason why netizens questioned Grace's death was the development of their relationship, and ultimately, Ben's chance at a good relationship was ruined by her death. On the other hand, Grace's character development could have been done on purpose in order for her death to have the same impact on the audience as it did.

What was inexplicable about her passing was that Ben, who stayed up late searching for connections and hints, missed out on so many opportunities to be with his beloved in order to defend those who couldn't or wouldn't care enough to even save themselves. Moreover, why did we witness Grace reunite with a long-forgotten aspect of herself, grieve her brother's unneeded passing, and make plans for the future only to have them abruptly cut short?

Ben's relationship with someone else, perhaps the audience favorite Saanvi (Parveen Kaur), could have been developed over the course of all this time, ensuring that Ben actually has a happy ending—including romantic love—at the end of it all.

After everything is said and done, even if Ben does find love once more, it won't feel like a happy ending. Grace was Ben's true love, as the show repeatedly affirmed. Grace was his happy ending.
