He and his wife, Erika Frantzve Kirk, had two children: a daughter born in August 2022 and a son born in May 2024. Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, while speaking as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”

During the tour, the political commentator was at his usual “Prove Me Wrong” table when he was fatally shot. As reported by NPR, videos on social media seemed to show Kirk being struck in the neck or the side of his head while responding to a question on gun violence.

In a statement on Truth Social, President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk's death and expressed his condolences to Erika and their two young children, saying:

"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie."

He added:

"He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"

Friends and workmates recall Kirk frequently discussing his ideas about marriage and having children, which were a central part of his value system. In his speeches, he claimed that having children is a "simple act of defiance" in challenging times.

Although Charlie Kirk lived much of his life in the limelight, he and his wife decided to keep their children’s names and faces private. Speaking on The Charlie Kirk Show with Allie Beth Stuckey, he explained:

Campus officials and news outlets stated that a single shot was fired at Kirk from a nearby building or structure, possibly a rooftop or another elevated area some distance away, while he was speaking under a tent. He was reportedly struck in the neck and taken to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead later that afternoon.

The university, local law enforcement, and state authorities are taking this as a serious form of violence. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the murder as a political assassination, saying that Kirk was primarily a husband and father of two young kids.
