Drake has got the internet talking again after posting a T-shirt saying "HATING DRAKE DOESN'T MAKE YOU DEEP" on his Instagram account @champagnepapi a week after a judge dismissed his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group. The past year has been an eventful time in the rapper's career, beginning with his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar, which culminated in a lawsuit against UMG for defamation regarding the song Not Like Us.

On October 16, 2025, Drizzy, who is reportedly working on his new album Iceman, recently posted a photo dump on his Instagram with the caption:

"Got this Barbie on my wrist where is Staci Doll."

The photo dump included a shirtless picture of the rapper, photos of his father, and some Barbie-themed snaps, including one of him wearing a baby pink T-shirt that read "LIFE IS SHORT PARTY HARD." However, the picture that got people's attention was a close-up of someone wearing a T-shirt that read "HATING DRAKE DOESN'T MAKE YOU DEEP."

Judge dismissed Drake's defamation lawsuit against UMG due to "non-actionable opinion"

Drake's contentious rap battle with Kendrick Lamar began in early 2024, with both rappers exchanging insults back and forth via multiple diss tracks. Lamar's final diss, Not Like Us, blew up into a cultural phenomenon even as it accused his rival of being a colonizer and p*dophile.

According to CNN, the Canadian rapper began 2025 by suing UMG for defamation regarding Not Like Us, accusing the record label of promoting the song that “intended to convey the specific, unmistakable and false factual allegation that Drake is a criminal p*dophile, and to suggest that the public should resort to vigilante justice in response.”

Following this, UMG filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in March 2025, claiming the case was "Drake’s attempt to save face for his unsuccessful rap battle with Lamar.” On October 9, 2025, Judge Jeannette Vargas granted the motion, stating that Lamar's claim of his rival being a "certified p*dophile" was "non-actionable opinion," not fact.

According to the filing, the judge described Not Like Us as "the metaphorical killing blow" against Drizzy in the feud, which contained accusations of the Canadian rapper being a predator "set to a catchy beat and propulsive bassline."

The judge further added that the accusations in the song were the result of "a heated rap battle" between the two and did not compel any "reasonable listener" to believe that it "imparts verifiable facts about plaintiff."

"The artists' seven-track rap battle was a 'war of words' that was the subject of substantial media scrutiny and online discourse. Although the accusation that plaintiff is a pedophile is certainly a serious one, the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that 'Not Like Us' imparts verifiable facts about plaintiff," the statement read.

A spokesperson for UMG told Variety that the record label was pleased at the verdict, calling the lawsuit "an affront to all artists and their creative expression."

"From the outset, this lawsuit was an affront to all artists and their creative expression and never should have seen the light of day. We're pleased with the court's dismissal and look forward to continuing our work successfully promoting Drake's music and investing in his career," the statement read.

Meanwhile, Drake's legal team is reportedly planning to appeal the judge's decision.

Not Like Us earned Kendrick Lamar five Grammys in 2025, including Song and Record of the Year. The rapper also rapped a censored version of the track during his headlining performance at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in February.
