Lottie Moss, half-sister of supermodel Kate Moss, has spoken out about her traumatic experience with Ozempic, a medication typically used to treat Type 2 diabetes but increasingly popular for weight loss. During the September 12, 2024, episode of her podcast Dream On, the 26-year-old model revealed that she was hospitalized after an overdose of the drug, which led to a seizure.
Moss warned others against using the medication unless medically necessary, stating,
"It was the worst decision I ever made."
She further shared,
"As soon as I get into the room where I get seen by another nurse, I literally had a seizure from how dehydrated I was, which honestly was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life."
Lottie Moss opens up about her near-fatal experience with Ozempic
Lottie Moss revealed that she gave Ozempic a shot a few months back after dealing with body issues. "A few months ago, I was not feeling happy with my weight," she explained. A friend provided the medication from a "below board" doctor without proper medical consultation.
Moss admitted to injecting nearly twice the recommended dose for her weight, a mistake that would soon have severe consequences.
However, after two weeks of taking the drug, Moss was subjected to some adverse effects. She said she had gotten "so sick" that she could not even take food or water in, and her face was pale. Moss stayed in bed for two days but got so weak that a friend took her to hospital. That is when she experienced a seizure as a result of severe dehydration.
Lottie Moss spoke of how she felt the horror of the seizure from the physical symptoms that she went through.
"Your hands clench up, and you can’t move them, and it feels like you’re gonna break your hand. It was honestly horrible," she stated.
Moss, who has struggled with substance abuse for most of her career, said she felt 'so disgusted' at having used Ozempic.
"It made me feel so nauseous. I would rather die any day than take it again," said Moss.
Moss also said that within two weeks after initiating the medication, she weighed 117 lbs from weighing 132 lbs. However, although she lost a significant amount of weight quickly, her body suffered from it. "It's so not worth it," she insisted and called her fans to stop taking the drug for weight loss unless for diabetes treatment.
Lottie Moss also deplored coming back of the so-called 'heroin chic' look in fashion, which she says is encouraging the use of slimming products such as Ozempic. She questioned the current beauty standards, asking,
"Where did the body positivity go? I don’t understand."
Despite the pressures from the industry, Moss revealed that she has reached a healthier mental and physical state, thanks in part to her new relationship.
"By him loving me, it’s made me love myself more in all areas," she said.
Lottie Moss's experience is not unique, as several celebrities have spoken out about the effects of Ozempic. Fitness expert Jillian Michaels shared concerns earlier this year, stating that she had helped take several people off the drug after they experienced severe side effects, including heart palpitations and nausea.
In contrast, others, like comedian Tracy Morgan, have reported positive experiences. Morgan, who has diabetes, told E! News in March 2024 that he takes Ozempic every week and credits it with reducing his appetite.
As the debate around Ozempic's off-label use continues, Lottie Moss hopes her story will serve as a cautionary tale.
