Senior Pastor at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Dr. Harry Reeder, recently passed away on May 18, 2023. He died after he was involved in an accident that took place on Dunnavant Valley Road near Dunnavant Place at 10:01 am on Thursday. Harry was inside a 2022 Buick Envision which crashed into the back of a dump truck that stopped to take a turn.According to Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans, Reeder was declared dead on the spot after the crash. The dump truck driver was identified as 38-year-old Brad Dawson, who managed to escape without injuries.Briarwood Presbyterian Church shared a statement on Facebook, confirming the news of Reeder's demise.They wrote:"Dear Congregation, It is with a deeply heavy heart that I communicate to you that our Lord has called Pastor Reeder home through a car accident. He eventually graduated in 1974 from Covenant College.He started his career as a pastor for an independent Bible Church in Chattanooga and he also worked part-time at the Tennessee Temple Seminary. He then joined Pinelands Presbyterian Church in Miami and acquired his Master of Divinity Degree from Westminster Seminary from the Florida Theological Center.He joined as the founding pastor of Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church in North Carolina in February 1983. There were 38 members in the ministry and around 3,000 people attended the Sunday morning worship services.He was associated with Briarwood Christian School for a long time and used to appear frequently at chapel services and school events.Before his demise, Reeder paid tribute to his late sister Vicki through a Facebook post. He shared two black-and-white pictures from the duo's childhood and wrote:"On this day 5 years ago the Lord unexpectedly yet in His perfect Providence brought home to glory my oldest sister and best friend Vicki. I miss her yet rejoice for her every day unstoppable love, wisdom loyalty and our daily phone calls and her contagious for Christ, evangelism, Christ's Church, her friends and her family. See you soon Sis!"Harry Reeder is survived by his wife Cindy, three children, and grandchildren.
