OpenAI boss Sam Altman has announced that verified adults will be able to generate erotic content through ChatGPT in the upcoming versions of the AI. Altman also detailed some changes in policy that will be implemented in the upcoming versions.

In an X post on October 14, Sam Altman detailed these policy changes, including making ChatGPT more human-like and having a personality. He notably mentioned that verified adults will be able to generate erotic content using the AI as well.

"In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults," he wrote.

Fans took to X to react to Sam Altman's latest announcement, with many being intrigued by this new feature. Previous and current versions of the AI restrict users from generating any such content, although it remains unclear what would qualify as erotic content in the new policy. Sam Altman details new changes in ChatGPT policy, including more personalized versions

In his X post dated October 14, Sam Altman shared more details about the new changes in his OpenAI policy to make ChatGPT better and more user-friendly. He first explained the previous restrictions in the AI.

"We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right. Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases."

Altman added that he is working on making the OpenAI bot more personal, so that users can get more customized responses based on their choices. He added:

"In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing)."

These new policy changes come months after OpenAI was sued by a teenager's parents, who alleged the AI contributed to their son's suicide. The parents of 16-year-old Adam Raine from the US, Matt and Maria Raine, filed the lawsuit against Sam Altman's company. They also produced Adam's alleged chatlogs with the AI, where he spoke about his suicidal thoughts.

The aforementioned incident raised concerns about the safety of minors on the internet and urged for better safety protocols for such content through AI bots. Altman mentioned in his latest post that some "new tools" have been introduced to mitigate the mental health risks, which could refer to parental controls or other safety measures. After the lawsuit regarding ChatGPT, the Federal Trade Commission also began an inquiry into various tech companies, including OpenAI, to ensure better safety measures for minors.

Altman's latest update is also similar to Elon Musk's recent changes in Grok, powered by his company xAI. Musk notably introduced two sexually explicit bots to generate sexualized chat options. Earlier this year, in August, Sam Altman indicated that GPT would not have similar features, although the new policy changes prove otherwise.
