On September 16, entrepreneur and political activist Jeremy Kauffman took to social media to reveal that the FBI visited him at his home in New Hampshire. This came after the Libertarian Party of New Hamshire (LPNH) posted on X that whoever murdered US VP Kamala Harris would be "an American Hero."
Kauffman, known for his Libertarian views, has often criticized the government. On September 15, LPNH, reportedly run by Jeremy Kauffman, posted the now-deleted tweet that said:
“Anyone who murders Kamala Harris would be an American Hero."
The post received a wave of outrage condemning the account for inciting political violence. On September 16, Jeremy Kauffman posted about the FBI visiting his house. He uploaded a nearly three-minute clip of him talking to two federal agents, who repeatedly asked him to stop recording.
Kauffman refused and asked them to show proof of identification. The back-and-forth went on for a while before the agents decided to leave.
Jeremy Kauffman is the co-founder and CEO of LBRY, a blockchain file-sharing system. He also actively advocated for the Free State Project and ran for Senate in 2022 as the Libertarian nominee in New Hampshire.
Jeremy Kauffman founded LRBY in 2015
Born in September 1984, Jeremy Kauffman graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with degrees in physics and computer science. He founded TopScore, a platform that helped in event and activity registration. In 2015, he launched LBRY, a blockchain company that shares content globally.
Jeremy Kauffman is also a political activist and a Libertarian. He joined Free State Project's board of directors in 2018. It is a non-profit that encouraged Libertarians to move to New Hamshire to make it the stronghold of Libertarian ideals. In April 2021, Kauffman reportedly took over the LPNH's X account.
In 2022, Kauffman ran for Senate as the Libertarian candidate but lost to Maggie Hassan. In an October 2022 interview with the New Hampshire Public Radio, Kauffman elaborated on his policies and principles, saying he wanted "less democracy."
"I want less democracy. I don't want these people in California and New York voting on my life in New Hampshire. And I'm an open Free Stater. I came to New Hampshire because I believe it's the most libertarian place in the country. And I want to be able to live with people who share my values. And it's okay if we disagree, but, you know, people should be able to live," Jeremy Kauffman said.
In September 2023, Jeremy Kauffman was removed from the Free State Project's board of directors for his continued online trolling and racially insensitive posts. He also frequently clashed with the other members like Free State founder Jason Sorens and Carla Gericke.
LPNH releases statement addressing backlash on the deleted tweet
Meanwhile, the official LPNH account addressed the backlash surrounding its deleted tweet about Kamala Harris in an official statement. One point of the statement read:
"We would never advocate for the assassination of a tyrannical President. That's illegal. We were merely acknowledging how some members would react to one. These feelings are no different than how many leftists reacted and continue to react to assassination attempts on Donald Trump."
The deleted tweet was posted on the same day that Secret Service agents arrested Ryan Wesley Routh for the apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The incident occurred when Trump was golfing at his golf course in Florida on September 15, 2024.
In other news, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump faced each other in their first presidential debate on September 10. The two candidates continue their campaigns ahead of the election on November 5.
